Taij Moteelall
Taij Kumarie Moteelall is a visionary, healer, and entrepreneur committed to building a solidarity economy rooted in harmonious relationships among people and the planet. Born in Guyana and raised in the U.S., Taij dedicated her life to advancing justice through the arts, amplifying the stories of marginalized communities for social justice. Her work spans writing, theater, performance, film, and multi-arts productions, all deeply informed by her ancestral lineage, lived experience, and radical imagination as a woman of color, immigrant, and survivor. In 2007, Taij organized the first Indo-Caribbean Women’s Empowerment Summit, leading to the founding of Jahajee, a gender justice movement aimed at building power among Indo-Caribbeans. As Arts + Activism Resident at Jahajee, Taij is writing and directing Jahajees Rising, a TV series exploring gender justice, healing, and restorative justice.
Taij’s leadership in the field of arts activism began in 1997 when she co-founded Blackout Arts Collective, which grew from a local presence in NYC to over 11 chapters across the US. She performs, produces events, tours, and more to advance racial justice.
