The Collaboration
Krystal Renée and Apollo Theater’s Education Department worked together to serve the Harlem community in New York City. Krystal worked primarily as a teaching artist, establishing a six-week step dance residency program for Apollo Education and teaching this style of dance to students in the surrounding area. In addition, Krystal supported the education team by assisting with school tours and helping with their marketing efforts by contributing to the monthly e-blast (which highlighted opportunities for community members), writing a study guide on step dance, and crafting website copy. Krystal also supported additional Apollo Education events such as Professional Development workshops and Internship program.
The Organization
The Apollo is an American cultural treasure. It is a vibrant non-profit organization rooted in the Harlem community that engages people from around New York, the nation, and the world. Since 1934, The Apollo has celebrated, created, and presented work that centers Black artists and voices from across the African Diaspora. It has also been a catalyst for social and civic advocacy. Today, The Apollo is the largest performing arts institution committed to Black culture and creativity.
