The Collaboration

BAAD! collaborated with artists Darrel Alejandro Holnes and Paloma McGregor on two separate initiatives. The partnership between BAAD! and Angela’s Pulse, a dance collaborative led by artist Paloma McGregor, celebrated a year of Sankofa and ten years of Dancing While Black with a wide range of programs. Programming included storytelling circles, virtual workshops, virtual conversations about collectivizing, a series of master classes, and more. Darrel produced and developed work for the Out Like That Festival at BAAD!, featuring a developmental script reading of “Olivierio” by Luis Augusto Figueroa. The work is a short film about a Panamanian-American who returns to his homeland for his mother’s funeral, only to discover that she left behind an adopted 7-year-old child.
