The Collaboration
Artists Sage Cotignola, Jeffrey Espinoza, Audreiana Lesty, and Christophe Lima made up the Tiny Collective, where they collaborated with Huntington Arts Council to promote a sense of well-being and community pride through murals and mural-focused arts education throughout Long Island, NY.
The artists brought over 12 pieces of publicly accessible murals to the Long Island community, the majority of which involved direct community involvement through the painting and/or design process. All of the projects centered around cultural hubs, such as arts councils, nonprofits, public libraries, free publicly accessible events, and public schools. Each of the murals were designed by listening intently to community members and helping to bring their visions to life. Many of the collaborators were school-aged children and teens, including those with special needs. Through the process of representing and beautifying their spaces, they provided an opportunity for empowerment, meditation, and increased emotional well-being through art-making.
The Organization
The Huntington Arts Council, a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, promotes arts and culture generated by Long Island artists to children and to the general population. They work to enrich the cultural, social, and economic life of the community by nurturing the professional development of artists, and by providing timely news and events via Arts Cultural Magazine (reaching 20,000 per issue). Their Arts-in-Education program reaches 35,000 children annually through partner school districts. They also offer artistic programs and services to our more than 100 cultural organization members who encompass the broad spectrum of arts disciplines.
