The Collaboration

Artists Kaycee Colburn, Emily Drew, and the late Aaron Perez joined Jamestown Community College to share their perspective and expertise in their craft, culture, and traditions. Kaycee worked to bring awareness, understanding, and acceptance of Indigenous culture to make the culture accessible to Native peoples living off territory. She used a variety of visual art forms to spread her message and offer advocacy for indigenous issues like Missing Murdered Indigenous Women. She held many solo projects, exhibits, artists talks, and community workshops where she taught how to make cornhusk dolls and beadwork, and gave speaker talks for classrooms and organizations across Chautauqua County. She also ran for local office, providing visibility and voice to the indigenous community residing in Jamestown. Kaycee also held the first Six Nations flag raising for the town of Jamestown, a historic event which brought much needed healing to the indigenous community.
