The Collaboration
Artists Jeremy Dennis, Denise Silva-Dennis, Brianna Hernandez, and Hunter Begun collaborated with Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio by supporting exhibits, residency programs, weekly workshops, and artist podcast interviews. Through this partnership, the Studio was able to host over 30 BIPOC artists in their residency program, coordinated by Jeremy. Brianna curated two month-long exhibitions in the gallery featuring Shinnecock artists, creating an accessible and culturally relevant space dedicated for the community. Denise led weekly workshops on beadwork, including beading on a loom, wampum jewelry, bandolier bags, feather fans, and more. Hunter helped to digitally archive the work of the Shinnecock elders on social media, recording their stories to share and reach new and younger audiences on TikTok.
The Organization
Ma’s House serves as a communal art space based on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in Southampton, New York. The family house, built in the 1960s, now features a residency program for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists, a shared art studio, and a communal library, along with hosting an array of art and history-based programs for tribal members and the broader local community.
