The Collaboration

Andrew Siedenburg and Kārlis Bergs worked with Staten Island Urban Center to make a documentary film that charts the environmental justice movement unfolding on Staten Island, NY. The artists collaborated with Urban Center to document activist work being done on the North Shore waterfront and engaged in development, land use, and flooding issues that have been a growing concern for decades. Their work together culminated in a six-month exhibition on Governors Island, on view from May – November 2024, which showcased a rough cut of the film, in addition to installation and archival images of the waterfront. The film was a work-in-progress and used the exhibition as a community feedback period as they completed the final cut.

The Organization

The Staten Island Urban Center’s mission is to inspire and educate multi-generational and multiethnic stakeholders as they build healthy neighborhoods and elevate community voices through activism and art.
