The Collaboration
Dan Duggan, James Gonzalez, and Cassie Helman collaborated with TAUNY in Canton NY to develop numerous new works and arts engagements for the North Country community. Dan lent his musical talents to a variety of programs including dances, community sings, concerts, workshops, children’s programs, and collaborations with schools throughout the North Country. James organized gallery exhibitions as well as the installation of several permanent outdoor public pieces. Planned future works include village wayfair signage, public furniture, decorative bike racks, a pedestrian lane welcome arch, and more. Cassie worked to bring art workshops to youth, including pottery courses for homeschooled students. She also led art-making activities at local farmers markets, bringing diverse community members together to paint a personalized ceramic tile, culminating in a collaborative mural. “Empty Bowls” was a grassroots movement led by Cassie where artists helped to raise money for food charities by donating ceramic bowls for a fundraising event. TAUNY hosted the culminating event where members could purchase artists’ wares, fill their bowls, and eat together. Event proceeds were donated to the county’s local food banks.
